Pietersite was discovered in 1962 by Sid Pieters in Namibia and later found in China. Though relatively recent in discovery, it formed through ancient geological processes involving brecciated tiger’s eye and hawk’s eye, creating its signature swirling, storm-like appearance.
Often referred to as the “Tempest Stone,” pietersite has become associated with navigating upheaval and reclaiming control during periods of rapid change. Its visual chaos reflects transformation under pressure rather than collapse—making it a stone for those who move forward through disruption rather than retreat from it.

Mineral Name: Pietersite
Mineral Group: Quartz (brecciated tiger’s eye / hawk’s eye)
Chemical Formula: SiO₂
Mohs Hardness: 6.5–7
Density: ~2.6 g/cm³Pietersite forms when fibrous quartz structures undergo natural fracturing and re-cementation, producing its chaotic yet cohesive internal pattern. This disrupted formation is what gives pietersite its dynamic visual energy.
