Selenite formed over 200 million years ago, humans have known and used selenite for over 2,000 years.
Ancient Greeks and Romans used thin selenite plates as windows before glass and believed it reflected lunar cycles and clarity of thought. It's used in the Middle East for protection in sacred spaces, and placed in altars for prayers and purification focus. The most recent discovery of the famous Cave of the Crystals (Naica, Mexico) in 2000 is a way of nature showing us what happens when pressure, heat, time and stillness agree.
People now place other stones on selenite to “reset” or “charge” them, However, true use of Selenite is to clarify and align internal light and external mind.

Mineral name: Gypsum (selenite is a crystalline variety)
Chemical formula: CaSO₄·2H₂O
Mohs hardness: 2
Density: ~2.3 g/cm³
Selenite was formed when ancient seas evaporated, leaving gypsum crystals behind. As the water disappears, minerals crystallize in layers and Gypsum (selenite) forms early in the evaporation process making it a pure and light feeling.
