• Horsetail inclusions (demantoid variety) — delicate, feathery, radiating fibers that extend from a central point and radiate outward, often curving gracefully within the stone. They are not found in any other green gemstone.
• Crystal inclusions (tsavorite/grossular variety) — small mineral crystals such as zircon, diopside, actinolite, or apatite; some mali garnets show fingerprints or small crystals along parallel growth planes.
• Color zoning natural variation in green tone throughout the stone, which is characteristic of the grossular garnet family whose color ranges from colorless through yellow to strong, vibrant green.
• Irregular clarity — natural garnets are rarely perfect, and a very clean stone may suggest synthetic creation or a different stone entirely.
